Metro Ontario raises $38,550 for our community
Metro Ontario’s Senior Vice-President Johanne Choiniere presents a cheque for $38,550 to Allison Urowitz, who accepted it on behalf of United Way Toronto at the company’s annual Full Plate Day.
On Thursday, October 20, Metro Ontario held its annual Full Plate Day—an opportunity for employees to learn about the company’s Full Plate Program and the value of good nutrition in our community before they begin their fundraising campaign for United Way Toronto.
Several hundred employees were invited to attend the presentations about food and nutrition held at the company’s downtown Toronto office. United Way Toronto, Breakfast Clubs of Canada, Second Harvest, and the Ontario Association of Food Banks all shared about the impact healthy food has on those in our city, especially children. As part of Metro Ontario’s focus on supporting United Way Toronto, they’re helping kids be all they can be by providing them with a healthy nutritious start.
Trish Plant of Lakeshore Area Multiservice Project (LAMP) was also on hand to highlight food-related programs such as breakfasts and morning meals offered at area schools, adult drop-in centre food offerings, and activities community residents can take part in, such as apple-picking outings and using a communal pizza oven. Trish and her helper Cassandra, a student at Ryerson University, also brought along thank-you letters and posters from students for Metro Ontario employees to enjoy.
During the event, Metro Ontario’s employees were free to circulate through four boardrooms, speaking to volunteers from the four organizations and getting information to guide their decisions on charitable giving.
As well, Metro Ontario’s Senior Vice-President Johanne Choiniere presented United Way Toronto with a cheque for $38,550—the funds will go toward our 2011 fundraising goal of $116-million, which will help support a network of over 200 membership agencies and programs providing vital social services to hundreds of thousands of people throughout our city. This significant gift represented the proceeds of a charity golf tournament that Metro Ontario hosted earlier this year.
Thank you to everyone at Metro Ontario for your continued support!
